Angelica is one of the only warming bitters, and also has a high concentration of volatile oils. This makes it an excellent carminative and warming digestive, helping to stimulate digestion and to relieve gas, bloating, and pressure. Angelica warms the body, and can help break a fever by promoting sweating. Through its warming, Qi-moving properties, it can bring on stalled menses and relieve uterine stagnation. In ancient times, angelica was used as a “journeying” medicine- it was burned and smoked to open the imagination and facilitate connection to the ethereal beings for which it is named.
*Angelica may have abortive effects, and is not for use in pregnancy. This is not a complete list of all possible contraindications*
