Sambucus nigra- Elderberry Tincture
A chemical constituent in elderberry binds to the same cell receptor sites where viruses attempt to bind, making it more difficult for them to survive in the body. Elderberry is both a helpful preventative when viruses are going around, and an excellent anti-viral for use during active illness. Unlike echinacea, it should not pose problems for people with autoimmune disorders. Elderberry is helpful for clearing upper respiratory congestion and infection, particularly when taken as a hot tea together with elderflower, yarrow, and mint. Finally, like many dark-colored berries, elderberry can be useful for strengthening blood vessel integrity.
