Latin Name: Salvia officinalis L.

Origin: Spain Process: Steam Distilled Essential Oil Plant Part: Leaves Cultivation: Cultivated, Certified Organic Use: Aromatherapy / Natural Perfumery Note: Middle to Top Note Aroma: Very strong, highly penetrating, diffusive, fresh, warm camphoraceous/herbaceous aroma.

Our very fresh Sage essential oil from Spain has an extremely diffusive and penetrating aroma that is unmistakably warming and clearing. However, essential oil of Salvia officinalis has a high thujone content (up to 50%), and because of this, it is necessary to use this oil only with appropriate caution (some recommend only with the advice of a certified aromatherapist or not at all); thujone can be highly neuro- and hepato-toxic when incorrectly used. In addition, thujone mimics estrogen and for this reason it is not recommended for use during pregnancy and breast feeding As a dried herb, white sage (Salvia apiana) has been traditionally used in Native American culture for ceremonial cleansing; in a similar fashion, essential oil of Salvia officinalis can be diffused to cleanse room environments, or a drop can be rubbed on the hands to disinfect and clear energy.

Aromatic Profile: Very strong, highly penetrating, diffusive, fresh, warm camphoraceous/herbaceous aroma. Blends Well With: Basil, Bergamot and other citrus oils, Geranium, Ginger, Hyssop, Laurel Leaf, Lavandin, Lavender, Lemon, Melissa, Oregano, Rosemary, Thyme. “Introduces fresh notes in fougères, chypres, aldehydic perfume bases, colognes, and spicy men’s fragrances…” It can be used in small amounts to lift and fix top notes; it also has relatively good tenacity.
