Red root is best known as a lymph-mover. It can reduce swollen lymph glands and help the body break down fluid-filled cysts, especially in the breasts. Red root’s astringency makes it a useful intestinal tonic for those weakened by diarrhea and insufficient nutrient absorption. It is also somewhat antispasmodic and expectorant. It is an excellent herb for supporting the spleen and relieving spleen swelling, making it potentially useful for mononucleosis. It may also cool and constrict blood vessels, making it an excellent addition to blends for bleeding or for uterine and blood congestion.
*Red root may not be safe for use during pregnancy. Check for other contraindications as well*
THS recommends that you consult with a qualified healthcare professional before using herbal products, particularly if you take other medications, or if you are nursing, pregnant, or expecting to become pregnant.
