Mahonia aquifolium

Oregon grape root is useful for sluggish liver symptoms such as acne, dry flaky skin, bad breath, and poor digestion. It is particularly useful for those that have a problem with poor digestion and assimilation of fats. Oregon grape root contain berberine, the bright yellow bitter constituent also found in goldenseal. This makes it an excellent anti-microbial, particularly useful in cases of excessive heat, irritation, lymph stagnation or dampness.   It may be useful for food poisoning, UTIs, tooth and gum infections, and infections of the gut, among other things. It also makes a great poultice or salve to be applied topically, and is a wonderful alterative and blood purifier.

*Oregon grape root and other berberine-containing plants are best avoided during pregnancy and nursing, except under the guidance of a practitioner. Please do not consider this a full list of all possible contraindications*
