Oplopanax horridus

This Pacific Northwest native plant may be an important ally in musculoskeletal conditions.  It is traditionally used both topically and internally for aches and pains, arthritis, rheumatism, and broken bones. It is best taken in the recovery phase rather than during acute pain. It can also be of use in infections and blood disorders.  Devil’s club is an excellent herb for stabilizing blood sugar levels- if you are diabetic, take it with frequent monitoring by a physician, as you may need to reduce your insulin doses. Devil’s club also acts as expectorant, simultaneously breaking up mucous and stimulating the respiratory system to expel it. Large doses can be purgative and emetic.
