Gentian is a very bitter herb that stimulates digestion and appetite by increasing production of saliva, gastric juices, and bile. This herb is great for ulcers, especially when formulated with slippery elm, ginger and/or skullcap. Gentian is a wonderful liver herb, helping to maximize liver function and reduce congestion and inflammation. Since the liver plays a key role in regulating hormones, gentian can also be useful for correcting hormone imbalance.
