Filipendula ulmaria

Meadowsweet’s bitter astringency comes partially from its salicilin content. Salicilin is the same active ingredient that was isolated for use in aspirin. Unlike aspirin, meadowsweet soothes the stomach instead of inflaming it. In fact, it is a great ally for regulating stomach acidity and generally restoring alkalinity to the body tissues. Meadowsweet is great for sour stomach, belching, and nausea before or after meals. It is useful for removing uric acid build up in the muscles, joints, and blood, so it may help combat arthritis, gout, or symptoms of gravel in the kidneys and bladder. Just like aspirin, it is also good for headaches and for reducing fevers.
