Fenugreek seeds contain up to 40% mucilage, a slippery emollient that soothes skin and heals mucus membranes. Fenugreek is one of the only warming demulcent herbs. It is an excellent healing herb for inflammation in the mucosal lining of the stomach and gut. It also acts as a general digestive aid, promoting healthy secretion of gastric juices and dispelling gas. Very rich and nourishing, fenugreek is a great addition to any lactation blend for breast feeding mothers. When used regularly, it may help regulate cholesterol. It is also makes a wonderful poultice for inflammation, ulcers, swollen glands, and bruises. The tea makes a nice wash for inflammatory skin conditions, such as acne.
