Teasel is used widely in traditional Chinese medicine, typically for diseases related to the kidney essence and liver blood, which are both responsible for the strength of joints and tendons. Teasel makes an excellent medicine for joint injury. It promotes the circulation of blood and removes pain and stiffness in bruised or swollen areas. It can be of great use in cases of inflammation in the lower back and the limbs, especially the knees. Herbalist Matthew Wood recommends teasel as a powerful remedy for Lyme disease.
