Cascara Sagrada Bark
Cascara sagrada is one of the most effective herbal laxatives. It containes hydroxymethyl anthraquinones, which cause peristalsis of the large intestine. It restores natural elasticity and tone to the relaxed structures and natural peristaltic motion. It supports the venous and capillary circulation of the entire intestinal tract, making it helpful for hemorrhoids as well as constipation. Cascara sagrada is fairly strong, and should be taken in small doses. To prevent cramping during use, it is usually blended with soothing and carminative herbs such as licorice and fennel.
*Due to cascara sagrada's stimulating effect and action on the circulatory system, it may be unsafe during pregnancy (especially early pregnancy). It should also be avoided during nursing. This should not be considered a complete list of all possible contraindications.*
THS recommends that you consult with a qualified healthcare professional before using herbal products, particularly if you take other medications, or if you are nursing, pregnant, or expecting to become pregnant.
