Boswellia carterii

Frankincense is an aromatic resin obtained from trees in the family Burseraceae and the genus Boswellia. It contains boswellic acid, which acts as a 5-LOX (5-lipoxygenase) inhibitor and is used to treat inflammation, rheumatoid and osteo-arthritis, and asthma. Used for centuries by healers, frankincense is often burned as incense and added to perfumes.
