Celery seed is overall cooling, thinning, cleansing, diuretic, and antiseptic. Its constituents and sodium content help to stimulate the kidneys, improve their function, and clear excess heat from the body. It is useful for breaking down and removing uric acid, making it a good choice for relieving gout and other conditions related to high uric acid levels. It is often employed against rheumatism, arthritis, inflammatory heat, and irritable tissues. Its diuretic and sodium balancing properties have also been used to help lower blood pressure and reduce edema. Celery seed may also increase semen volume.
