Hiwa kai salt, or black lava salt, is produced in Hawaii. It is a combination of pacific sea salt and activated charcoal, and is traditionally used as a finishing salt on seafood, pork, and roasted chicken.  It is also used for spiritual purposes, such as warding off harmful spirits.
