Thymus vulgaris
Thyme is probably best-known for relieving coughs and clearing congestion. It makes an excellent gargle or mouthwash for sore throats and infected gums. It contains thymol, which contributes antimicrobial, antifungal, and anti-parasite benefits. Thyme also has a soothing effect on the nerves, allowing it to relieve spasms, cramping, and headaches. Its carminative properties make it useful for indigestion and flatulence.
