Welcoming in the New Year with Herbalist Amanda Furbee

How many of you are taking a deep breath of relief that 2020 is over? I know I am. Who would have known what we were stepping into on Jan 1, 2020? The year of the Metal Rat pushed us to every possible boundary of change! It taught us to shift on a dime and follow our guts. Never in the history of most folks, who are alive and breathing, have we witnessed the shear voltage of a such a year. Shattering and re-emerging.  Everywhere we look and in every other breath we greet complete upheaval and rebirth.

What did this teach us as a community? What did 2020 teach you personally? In your children? In our relationships?

That we need change! We have turned a chapter in history, and in each one of our lives. Every being, large and small, felt this year in some capacity. Millions of folks around the world completely re-inventing themselves in this very minute. It’s terrifying and liberating all at the same time.

Here I am, sitting and reflecting on all the ways I personally change and shook off the things that no longer served me. And to be quite honest, I don’t think I have fully processed this year in its entirety. The lessons that have unfolded and the ways in which my perspective have shifted are endless.

I know many business owners, like myself that went from brick in mortar businesses to online operations overnight! If that was you - great job, that was tough work! You should seriously pat yourself on the back! Every healthcare worker working to pure exhaustion to keep communities safe - you are amazing! The support and awareness brought to BIPOC this year has been so encouraging. We have a long way to go, but a portal of truth has opened. Thank you to the communities and individuals that are supporting restaurants and small businesses - we love you and could not have made it through this year without you and your support!

One thing I am most grateful for are my employees! Through thick and thin, they stuck it out. With a huge, open heart, and a willingness to shift with the changes of 2020.. and you want to know why? Because they love you, the community that takes care of them! They want to make change in a big and positive way.  They want to give you a huge, nourishing hug, and let you know it's all going to be okay. We will do this together.

So as we take this next step together, hand in hand, hearts open and stepping blindly into the unknown, we do it together. 2021 is the year of the metal Ox, let us grow together in our love, compassion and kindness. Let us learn from our mistakes and honor them. Let us truly support the communities that surround us.

May this year be full of positive growth and awareness. Nourish yourself with self-care and gentleness.

So much love to each of you.
