Giving Back with Herbalist Amanda Furbee

'Tis the Season to be Jolly!

All of us here at The Herb Shoppe are grateful for you! It is truly a blessing to get to do this work and provide a healing service to the community. Our goal at THS has always been to create a safe space and to honor the process of each person as they enter our doors and share their healing process with us.

We have so many things to be grateful for! In 2019, as a collective unit, we completed the redesign of our beloved product line. You can view the full line here. We began the launch of our sliding scale community clinic, and will offer it once a month going forward. Last, but not least we opened up the doors of possibilities of introducing CBD into our product line. Our goal is to combine CBD with the appropriate and already loved Herb Shoppe blends over the next year. We hope to educate the community on how wonderful CBD can be in combination with other herbs that complement each other.

This year we're dedicating the holiday season to giving back! We have chosen 3 organizations to support from the Friday after Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve. For all sales over a $35 we will donate $1 and for all sales over $100 we will donate $5 to the organization you choose.

As a collection decision, we decided on these 3 organizations this year:

  1. Herbalists Without Borders - They provide care when the demand is high from natural Disaster to houseless communities and more.

Their mission states: Herbalists Without Borders is an all volunteer membership based 501c3 nonprofit local to global network devoted to providing compassionate holistic care to communities and countries in need impacted by natural disasters, violent conflicts, poverty, trauma and other access barriers to health and wellness.

  2. Plantain Project - This organization is a local group of folks that grow and make medicine to help support folks in need.
Their mission states: We are a group of medicinal plant growers who want to cultivate access to botanicals for grassroots community groups. We do this by partnering with local landholders and volunteers who desire to learn medicinal plant preparation and cultivation skills in the context of giving back to people and the land. All the medicine made is donated to folks serving their communities primarily through lenses of socioeconomic equality, anti-oppression work and first nations support.

  3. Right to Survive - A Portland Based Organization their goal is to empower the un-sheltered, the disenfranchised, those of color, oppressed minorities, those who are being treated like criminals because of their poverty.

Their mission states: Since 2009, we have led the charge in educating both houseless and housed people on their civil, human and constitutional rights. We work to bridge the gap between housed and un-housed people by clearing up misconceptions and stigmas associated with houselessness and empower houseless people to stand up for themselves when their rights are violated.
